Now in its 10th year, the Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation Amateur Triathlon will kick off once again with an eight-week fitness challenge beginning Saturday, Aug. 2, leading up to the triathlon competition day in October.
In order to avoid the erratic weather of the spring, the loaded baseball schedule in June and the Fair at the end of July, MMHF treasurer and MMHF Amateur Triathlon committee member Nancy Colglazier said MMHF has pushed the start-date back for the program. This year’s eight-week challenge will actually begin later than last year’s competition day so participants will be able to compete in the cooler September weather.
Teams are encouraged to be formed by organizations, businesses, friends and family for the challenge that consists of running/walking, biking and swimming. Up to 10 participants can form a team, with each team designating a captain. Individuals may also register for the fitness challenge.
There are four age divisions for the eight-week program. The PeeWee division will include children 4-9 years old; junior division, age 10-16-; adult division, age 17-64; and senior division, age 65 and older.
Weigh-ins will be held at the Melissa Memorial Hospital group room near the entrance of the hospital Monday, July 28, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and Tuesday, July 29, from noon-5 p.m.
Weigh-out dates are set for Monday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 30, from noon-5 p.m. at the MMH group room.
