|Holyoke swim team breaks 14-year-old pool relay record|

On July 1, 2000, Holyoke 11-12 swimmers Jake O’Neal, Kristin Williamson, Justin Hicks and Kurt Rumold swam the 200 yd. mixed medley relay at the Oakley, Kan., swim meet in record time.
Clocking in at 2:41.78, the record has remained untouched for 14 years. As Holyoke swimmers competed last Saturday, June 28, in Oakley, that medley relay record was shattered by over five seconds.
Competing on this year’s team, Remington Hielscher, Rylee Schneller, Emily Jelden and Lali Marquez powered through the pool to a record time of 2:36.45.
Holyoke ended the meet in second place behind Goodland, Kan. Overall team scores were Goodland 310 followed by Holyoke 249.5, Colby, Kan., 203, Burlington 187.5, Wray 186, Oberlin, Kan., 116, Oakley 81 and Flagler 27.
The new record was a great accomplishment during a difficult meet for Holyoke. Coach Adria Colver pointed out that the swimmers still had some amazing races, but with Oakley being their fifth consecutive meet, the team is a little worn out.
With a break for the Fourth of July weekend, swimmers will have a chance to recover before the two-day league meet.
