Holyoke’s swimmers began rigourous practice for their summer season this week. Participants had been meeting weekly throughout the winter, but they upped it to daily practices in preparation for the season opening swim meet here in Holyoke.
Swimmers up to age 18 are competing under the instruction of coaches Adria Colver, Aly Brinkema, Brenda Krueger and Brittany Young.
Coach Krueger noted she and the others are especially excited for all the new swimmers they have this year. There are several new members to the team, most notably in the 8 and under and 9-10 age groups. It will be great to see them swim in their first meets, and watch them grow this summer. Also returning to the water are many experienced athletes from previous years.
The Holyoke swim meet is the first in the Northwest Kansas Swim League. It will be held Saturday, May 30 at the Holyoke swimming pool, and will feature competition from Colorado teams Burlington, Flagler and Wray, and Kansas teams Colby, Goodland, Oberlin and Oakley. The action is set to begin at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the day.
Holyoke swim club will be working hard to train for the meets they have nearly every weekend. This year’s season will continue through July 11, when the team will compete at the league meet.
Swim meets this summer are scheduled as follows:
Holyoke, May 30; Burlington, June 6; Goodland, June 13; Colby, June 20; Oakley, June 27; and the League meet in Wray, July 10-11.
