Bret Miles was named superintendent of Holyoke School District Re-1J on an official vote of the Board of Education at its Tuesday, May 5 meeting.
Finalists for the position were interviewed Saturday, May 2 in three settings: one with the board and two more with focus groups made up of school staff and community members.
Miles returns to his native Holyoke in accepting the position. He and his wife Nancy (Johnson) both graduated from HHS in 1990.
Miles taught fourth grade for three years in Douglas County before accepting a fourth grade position here in Holyoke in 1998. He served in that teaching role for two years.
The new superintendent comes to the district from the Brush School District, where he is currently serving as superintendent.
Details of Miles’ contract, as well as a report of the rest of the May 5 school board meeting, will appear in next week’s Enterprise.
