Thirty-six students in Holyoke High School’s Class of 2009 will be recognized at Commencement exercises this Sunday, May 10 at 2 p.m. in the HHS gym.
A Baccalaureate service will begin at 1 p.m. in the HHS auditorium, sponsored by the Holyoke Ministerial Alliance.
Class of 2009 valedictorian honors go to Dylan Bradley. There is no salutatorian this year as Bradley is the only senior who took the required five Advanced Placement or college-credit courses in core subject areas in order to be eligible for the valedictorian and salutatorian honors.
Lou Encinias, pastor of First Christian Church of Holyoke, will serve as speaker for the Baccalaureate service Sunday.
Additionally, a trio of senior girls including LeAnne McWilliams, Flor Varela and Alyshia Durbin will sing I Will Remember You at the program. A student slide show of the seniors will also be shown.
In addition to the presentation of diplomas and scholarships, the commencement ceremony will be highlighted by special music and recognition of citizenship award winners by American Legion Post 90 and its Auxiliary.
I Hope You Dance will be sung by the HHS choir, and the band will play The Final Countdown during the program. Processional music will feature the JR/SR high bands. The band is under the direction of Pat Wiebers, and the choir Marcia Dalton.
