Holyoke Dragon basketball teams had to split up Tuesday, Feb. 21 for the opening round of the Class 2A District 2 Tournament. Winners of Tuesday’s games advance to the district semifinals Thursday, Feb. 23 at NJC in Sterling. Teams losing the Tuesday first-round games are done for the season. The girls were the No. 6 seed and had to travel to Burlington to face the Lady Cougars. The Holyoke boys earned the fourth seed and played host to No. 5 Wray Tuesday night. Results of the two games will appear in next week’s issue of the Enterprise. The Akron Lady Rams earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye. The winner between No. 4 Sedgwick County and No. 5 Wray is scheduled to meet up with Akron Thursday Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. at NJC in Sterling. The winner of Holyoke/Burlington is scheduled to play the winner of No. 2 Yuma and No. 7 Wiggins Thursday at 6 p.m. The girls’ consolation game will be played Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. in Sterling. The girls’ championship will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The Akron boys also earned the No. 1 seed and will meet the winner of Holyoke/Wray Thursday, Feb. 23 at 4:30 p.m. in Sterling. No. 2 Yuma was scheduled to play No. 7 Sedgwick County Tuesday night. The winner of that game is scheduled to play the winner of No. 3 Wiggins and No. 6 Burlington Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The boys’ consolation game will be played Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2:30 p.m. with the championship game at 5:30 p.m. The top four placewinners will move onto regionals the following weekend.
