Three Holyoke youth have the opportunity to advance to the Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Championships after winning the local and district competition Jan. 30.
Zach Churchwell, Kaide Bules and Cody Lamm won their age divisions in the local contest. Since Holyoke is the only council that sponsors a local competition, the boys competed in the district contest that same day.
State free throw shooting is scheduled Saturday, March 19 at St. Thomas Moore School gym in Centennial.
Twelve youth entered the local free throw contest, representing three boys’ age divisions. The contest is open for boys and girls, ages 10-14, but no girls competed and only three boys’ ages had contestants.
Churchwell won the 11-year-old boys’ division, hitting nine of 15 in the local contest and seven of 25 in the district shoot.
Bules won the 12-year-old boys’ division with nine of 15 in the local contest and 12 of 25 in the district shoot.
Lamm won the 13-year-old boys’ competition with two free throws in the local shoot and three in districts.
