|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
Hospice of the Plains is asking community members, “Do you have a minute? Sometimes that’s all it takes!”
This end-of-life care organization is seeking individuals to volunteer a few moments of their time. A free volunteer training session will be held Thursday, Feb. 3 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. with lunch provided at the Peerless Center.
Register by Monday, Jan. 31 and call Deb at 970-332-4116 for further information. Training manuals are available from Julie Dirks at Flower Garden.
Both patient contact and non-patient contact duties are available with Hospice of the Plains, whose goal is to bring peace and comfort to terminally ill patients.
Patient contact responsibilities can range from ready and reminiscing to letter writing or sitting with the patient to allow primary caregivers time to do errands.
Non-patient contact responsibilities can be an assortment of office duties including filing, assisting in the assembly of the quarterly newsletters and updating files. Volunteers might also shovel a walk or do light housework, yardwork, baking or fundraising.
