|Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program sign-up continues|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
Sign-up for the Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP) continues. In order to participate, producers must update their contract(s) before the June 1 deadline. Unlike the Production Flexibility Contract (PFC) program, this program requires producers to sign contracts annually.
The FSA office can provide 22 percent of the direct payment now, or farmers can select their payment not be made until next fiscal year (after Oct. 1). However, before payments can be made, an approved contract, eligibility forms and 2011 rental agreements, if applicable, must be on file.
Producers also have the option of not participating in the DCP program for 2011. Any farm not enrolled in the 2011 DCP program will retain eligibility for the 2012 DCP program.
FSA is asking producers call for an appointment to make application in the DCP program. Although the sign-up deadline is June 1, the office would like to have most producers signed up by March 1. With other anticipated sign-ups that are forthcoming and producers reporting acreage, appointment times could be limited after March 1.
The SURE program (disaster program) sign-up for 2009 started Jan. 10, 2011. If producers had a loss on a farm in 2009, they need to check with their local Farm Service Agency office to set up an appointment.
In Phillips County, the office will load the data for a farm and determine if it has a loss. When farmers visit the office at an appointment time, they will go over the data and afford the opportunity to complete the application process.
Just because a farmer did not have a payable loss under insurance does not necessarily mean they will not have a payable loss with the FSA.
For an appointment, call 854-2812 ext. 2 between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
