“The 12 Days of Christmas” serves as the theme for the Chamber of Commerce’s 2010 Country Christmas celebration in Holyoke this year.

The celebration will be held Monday, Dec. 6 in downtown Holyoke with many fun events planned. Hopes for everyone involved is the weather will cooperate and allow people to enjoy the Christmas spirit as opposed to last year when weather hassled with the event.

Santa’s Village will be open from 4-8 p.m. at the Vet’s Hall. Children, pets and anyone interested will have the opportunity to get their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Photos will be taken by Brittany Krueger of Prairie Photography.

Also open from 4-8 p.m. will be the Phillips County Museum. Hot cider and cookies will be served for those who want to duck in out of the cold for a moment while taking a look at Phillips County history.

A free kids movie will be shown at the Peerless Theatre from 4-6 p.m. Showing will be “The 12 Dogs of Christmas,” followed by candy bags from Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department. Santa Claus will then lead the group to light the Christmas lights.

The HVFD will also be serving a soup supper at the Vet’s Hall from 5-8 p.m. A freewill donation will benefit the 4th of July fireworks display.

During the dinner, Jolly Dozen FCE Club will be holding a contest where people may guess the number of candies in different jars.

The Parade of Lights, sponsored by PC Telcom, Highline Electric Association, Scholl Oil and Transportation and Star 92.3, will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Organizations from around town will be sprinkled around the downtown area offering warm drinks and snacks throughout the evening to help raise funds for projects. If hot cider or hot chocolate is wanted, there will be plenty of it to be had.

The Lions Club will serve hot cider at the Lions Club Mini Park.

Better Beef Makers 4-H Club will set up on the corner by Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union to serve hot chocolate and s’mores. Half of the proceeds will be donated to My Little Angel Toy Drive.

Phillips County Family Education Services will be located in front of El Maizito De Oro serving hot cider and Mexican food.

Other tables include Phillips County Relay for Life, who will hand out candy canes in front of First Pioneer National Bank. 2011 Phillips County Fair Queen Janna Smith will have a table at Inklings Bookstore offering cookies and hot cider for donations. Those interested may also decorate their own sugar cookies at Smith’s table.

The Haxtun Merry Dickens Choristers will stroll throughout downtown singing Christmas tunes for all to enjoy.

In addition, local businesses will stay open late offering holiday sales and prices.
