Coaching and other extra-duty assignments, as well as the resignation/retirement of band director Pat Wiebers, were approved at the June 1 meeting of Holyoke School District Re-1J Board of Education.
Wiebers’ resignation is effective at the end of her current contract. With her retirement announcement, Wiebers said she will be starting “Act II” of her life.
Prior to approving extra-duty assignments for 2010-11, the board heard from recent HHS graduate Ryan Baumgartner. Board members also held a 30-minute executive session with the superintendent and two principals for discussion of personnel matters relating to recommendations for the extra-duty posts.
Baumgartner expressed support for his dad, John Baumgartner, who has served as the HHS boys’ basketball coach. Ryan addressed concern for the way his dad was treated, adding he felt there was no respect nor fairness in the way the coaching evaluation/assignment was handled.
Nine vacancies still exist on the 2010-11 extra-duty list, in addition to the band director and musical positions slotted for Wiebers prior to the announcement of her retirement.
