|HVFD to hold Family Fun Day Sunday|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first annual Family Fun Day Sunday, May 23 at Homesteaders Park at Phillips County Fairgrounds.
In the past, a fireman’s ball has been the primary fund raising event for the HVFD but this year fun and games will take its place.
Activities are set to begin at 1:30 p.m. and the afternoon will be filled with games for children and family activities. Everyone is encouraged to join in on the fun.
A dry change of clothes is suggested for those participating in the games. A free meal will be served at 5 p.m. and donations will be accepted.
Those attending are urged to take their lawn chairs, enjoy the music and spend some time hanging out with neighbors, friends and family.
2009 activity and involvement
HVFD adopted the motto “Pride, Progress and Tradition” in 2009 and answered 41 fire alarms totaling 285 hours, spent 1,884 hours training with an average of over 60 hours of training per firefighter, volunteered a total of 2,820 hours of service to the community, logged 1,220 miles on the fire trucks and wrote and applied for four different grants.
