|Citizen appreciates quieter downtown|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
Dear council members,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the courage you have shown in turning off the downtown siren. It is our opinion this antiquated system of public address is no longer needed or wanted.
We agree whole-heartedly with council members who oppose to them. We also agree they are a hassle and dangerous. We don’t see any way these screeching sirens of the past cold war era add any quaintness to our charming little village. It is nice to see government is finally looking out for the comfort and desires of at least these citizens.
We just wish all council members could follow the town’s motto of “progress” and make some by stopping these annoyances. We request the city council turn off the “sirens” altogether, with the exception of the tornado siren. This is the only reason we can see for these devices.
Thanks again for your time in the matter, and please consider extending the quiet to the whole city. We will be looking forward to the day when the people living in the homes of Holyoke can enjoy the peace and quiet the downtown enjoys now.
