|Sounds of Christmas heard during winter band concert|

Christmas spirit was in the air Monday, Dec. 14 as five different bands took the stage at HHS auditorium, as well as numerous unique solos.
Crowd members made their way to the auditorium despite chilly outside temperatures. Patricia Wiebers directed the program.
David and Julie Dirks represented Hospice of the Plains and read names of people whose memories were acknowledged by donation.
Kicking off the night were members of the Jazz Band. They began with Good King Wenceslas featuring soloists Logan Bly (trumpet) and Lindsay Helgoth (tenor saxophone) followed by Away in the Manger. They wrapped up their portion of the show with You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch featuring soloists Ella Stewart (tenor saxophone) and Taylor Haidle (trumpet) and Joy to the World.
Sixth grade students entertained the crowd with Jammin’ on the Rooftop, A Classical Canon, Who Let the Elves Out and Christmas in the Kitchen featuring Dominic Krogmeier and Marques Harvey (pans) and Tyler Loutensock, Austin Vieselmeyer and Jaylene Dominquez (glasses).
Fifth grade soloists for the night were Austin Herman (alto saxophone), Silent Night; Megan Humphreys (clarinet), Feliz Navidad; Mackenzie Thompson (trombone), Deck the Hall and Emily Krogmeier (alto saxophone), Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
The Junior High Concert Band began with A Holiday Processional followed by Jolly Ol’ Dude.
Shaylee Krueger, Jacinda Krueger and Eva Penzing performed a flute/clarinet piece titled African Bell Carol. Junior High members finished with Deck the Halls with Drums and Voices.
Members of the fifth grade band performed numerous short pieces including Hot Cross Buns, March Steps, Lightly Row, Doodle All Day, Skip to my Lou, Hard Rock Blues and Up on the Housetop. The final three short songs were performed by each individual homeroom. They included Rolling Along, A Mozart Melody and Ode to Joy.
The entire fifth grade band came together to finish out with Christmas Fun and Jingle Bells.
Monday’s program concluded with members of the HHS Concert Band performing, Yuletide Celebration featuring Amy Krogmeier (flute), We Three Kings, O Holy Night and Brighter Side of Christmas.
Soloists in O Holy Night were Taylor Haidle (trumpet), Molly Fricke (clarinet), Amy Krogmeier (flute), Logan Bly (trumpet), Araceli Banuelos (trumpet), Lindsay Helgoth (alto saxophone) and Nicole Brandt (alto saxophone).
