The drought in 1940 was broken by a 4-inch rain in June. Northeast Colorado, through which the Frenchman Creek winds its way, was the scene of a flood as waters from downpours of rain June 6-7 surged down the creek, overflowed the banks and inundated hundreds of acres of farmland. The rain in Holyoke brought 3.47 inches of precipitation, making the total 4.44 inches for the first seven days of June. —Photo from Phillips County Museum
