HHS swim team takes second in Estes Park tri

Due to weather and holidays over the past month, Holyoke High School’s swimmers have gone nearly the whole time without any competition. On Jan. 12, the team traveled to Estes Park, Colorado, for a tri with Estes Park and Eaton.

On a team level, Eaton won with 75 overall points. Holyoke earned 38 points, edging out Estes Park who scored 37.

Coach Emily Krogmeier acknowledged that the altitude presented more challenges than the Holyoke swimmers usually face, but they battle through.

“They were so excited to compete again, and that was evident with these girls,” she said. “They showed up, they battled hard in every event they swam.”

Tayla and Summer Martin led the team with two first-place individual finishes each. Tayla swam a state-qualifying 2:11.56 in the 200-yard freestyle. In the 100-yard freestyle, she clocked 0:58.54.

Martin won both the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 0:28.07 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:19.15.

Addie Goldenstein took second place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:43.78 and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 0:30.85. Aly Lock took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:27.07.
