Football travels to Limon on Friday

This coming weekend, the Dragon football team will travel to Limon to face the Badgers. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14.

In league action last week, Wiggins beat Holyoke 42-8. Yuma beat Burlington 32-21, and Limon beat Wray 13-8. Both Yuma and Limon remain undefeated. Both Wray and Wiggins are 4-2, and Burlington and Holyoke are 2-4.

The Oct. 7 Holyoke-Wiggins matchup was the Dragon homecoming game. In addition to the football game, fans enjoyed performances by the band and cheerleaders and the crowning of the homecoming royalty at halftime.

As for the game itself, the Wiggins Tigers started things off by receiving the kickoff. They methodically ran down the field for their first touchdown. The PAT kick was wide, and Wiggins led 6-0. With about 3:00 left in the first quarter, the Tigers ran in another TD. A successful 2-point conversion put the score at 14-0.

Back on offense, the Dragons had a long catch-and-run into the end zone. Unfortunately the would-be touchdown was negated by a penalty.

Holyoke still had the ball at the start of the second quarter, but a sack on fourth down in the red zone put an end to that possession. Wiggins scored another touchdown and PAT, extending the lead to 21-0 with 4:07 on the clock.
