‘DRIVE AND DETERMINATION’

Over the course of their 2022-23 season, members of the Holyoke High School girls swim team have qualified for state in 11 events. Qualifying times for three of those events were just added at the Feb. 2-3 Patriot League conference meet at Mountain View Aquatic Center in Loveland, Colorado. Prelims were held Thursday and finals were Friday.

Coach Emily Krogmeier said that it was an amazing meet. 

“The girls have been working all season for this and it showed,” she said. “They have persevered through it all, including missing meets because of the weather.”

Highlights of the conference meet were new state qualifying times for Addie Goldenstein in the 200-yard individual medley, Summer Martin in the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay team, along with Tayla Martin’s new Patriot League meet record in the 100-yard butterfly.

“Their drive and determination are incredible and I can’t wait to see what the state meet brings,” Krogmeier said.

Swimmers are allowed to compete in two individual events and two relays each at state. Tayla, Summer, Goldensten and Aly Lock will travel to the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton, Colorado, this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11, for state. The four will swim in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Individually, Tayla will compete in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, Summer will swim the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, and Goldenstein will swim the 200-yard individual medley.
