Superintendent survey process explained

Holyoke School District residents will have the opportunity to complete a superintendent survey, as explained at the Nov. 7 school board meeting by Superintendent John McCleary.
He told the board that the survey’s purpose is to gain feedback from multiple perspectives to help develop effective growth goals and outcomes.
The 15-question survey, in part, asks for a rating on how the superintendent is doing on each of the six district goals. The sample reviewed at last week’s meeting included a five-point scale from “unacceptable” to “outstanding.”
While it’s not intended that this be used as a board evaluation of the superintendent, the board did suggest that the survey should perhaps use a four-point scale to mesh with the board’s evaluation tool.
McCleary talked about some options for soliciting response from a broader sense of community and encouraging a higher rate of response for the survey.
He mentioned using the extensive parent email list that he has, promoting it on the district website, sharing it with the chamber of commerce and highlighting it in The Holyoke Enterprise. There would be encouragement for all who receive the survey to share it with others.
