Students of the month

Students of the Month for February at Holyoke JR/SR High School have been named. They are senior Alejandro Rojas, nominated by English teacher Charlene Kleve, and seventh grader Thomas Diaz, nominated by resource teacher Wendy Grothman and social studies teacher Micah Mehl.

The nomination letter for Rojas read, “Alejandro Rojas comports himself with dignity and pride every day. He is a leader on and off the basketball court. Alejandro has worked with new basketball players and underclassmen without hesitation. He continually uplifts his teammates and others with his positive attitude towards the game and life. It is heartwarming to see him wait for all the students who need lunch to get it before he gets his lunch. While he waits, he talks to all the other students and interacts with 7th-8th grade students as well as high school. He always has a kind word for everyone. Alejandro has also shared his artistic talents with the Dragon family. The artwork over the office door, he designed the teacher’s dragon pride staff shirts and painted a desk in the art room.”

Diaz’s letter read, “Thomas is always respectful and kind to others. He follows the rules and reminds others to do the same. He is helpful to other students when they are stuck on homework. Thomas stays on task on his own homework and turns it in on time. He is a model student. Thomas is always dedicated to what we are learning about. He works hard to make sure all his assignments in class are correct and tries to make everyone in class feel welcomed. He is kind and is always ready to help support his classmates. Thomas acts as a good role model for the other students in his class and is well behaved.”
