Students of the Month

Students of the Month for December at Holyoke JR/SR High School have been named. They are senior Shianne Willmon, nominated by science teacher Ashley Clayton, and eighth-grader Yoselin Peña, nominated by social science teacher Hannah Krening.

Clayton’s letter read, “During her time at Holyoke High School Shianne has served as a natural leader both in and out of the classroom.  As a student she works to complete each assignment at a high-level while helping her peers to succeed with the utmost integrity.  She consistently pours her heart into each task or activity no matter what the requirements or what other challenges she may be facing and for this reason alone, she serves as an academic role model for her peers.  The classroom is not the only place in which Shianne leads her peers with her whole heart; as a class officer Shianne is consistently organized and often completes her duties well in advance of the event.  For example, she has already began to collect and organize her classmates ideas for graduation, including quotes, songs, gown color, etc.  Throughout this process and several others, I have witnessed Shianne work exhaustively to ensure each voice is heard and given fair representation.  And as a result of these actions and many more, I feel that Shianne serves as an outstanding example for her peers and what it means to RISE Excellence on a consistent basis.”

The nomination letter for Peña read, “Yoselin is always focused and working hard in class and is doing what is asked of her without any provocation or refocus from teachers. She always tries her best and works hard not only with her classwork, but also with her NWEA testing and in other aspects of daily classwork. She is always a joy to have in class and goes above and beyond in ways beyond just the academic.”
