Students learn important lessons at 6th Grade Farm Safety Day

Holyoke sixth graders raise their hands in response to Correy Koellner’s question about helmets at the third annual 6th Grade Farm Safety Day on Tuesday, Sept. 21, outside the ag shop at Holyoke JR/SR High School. They are pictured from left, Isaac Juarez, Cesar Favela, Robert Martinez and Abby Davidson. The event was coordinated by Haxtun Conservation District, and Jayde Van Cleave with Colorado Farm Bureau instructed HHS FFA members on the details of the different stations that were set up for the sixth graders to see. The FFA members then taught the sixth graders about different aspects of farm safety at each station. In addition to learning about helmets, kids also learned about tractor and ATV safety, grain bin safety and more as they rotated through the stations. Highline Electric Association gave an electrical safety demonstration, and CHS Grainland general manager Evan Fust gave a presentation on chemical safety. — The Holyoke Enterprise | Johnson Publications
