School to get rural funding not previously budgeted

Colorado voters passed a proposition in November to use some tax money from tobacco sales to replace lost rural education funding.

As a result, Holyoke School District will receive almost $200,000 in rural funding that was not budgeted for in June, reported Budget and Finance Director Ben Rahe at the Jan. 19 Board of Education meeting.

Rahe also noted that Gov. Jared Polis, in his supplemental budget, asked for an additional $121 million for schools to buy down the budget stabilization factor.

If approved, Rahe estimated that this could add roughly $85,000 in the local school district budget. He pointed out that this is not in the January budget that the board approved Tuesday night because it isn’t a sure deal.
