School’s community service day includes planting a ‘green wall’ and more

Holyoke School District put words into action, and students were out and about town Friday, April 27, for a spring community service day.
Students in grades 7-12 have been using the Seven Mindsets curriculum in their Individual Career and Academic Plan and exploratory classes for three years. After learning about the “Live to Give” mindset, students started designing ways they could give back to their community.
JR/SR High Principal Susan Ortner said class periods were shortened Friday so the students could complete service projects in the afternoon. She said it’s the first time the school has done this in several years.
Seventh-graders did clean-up at Holyoke City Park, and eighth-graders gave school custodians the day off by cleaning inside and outside the school.
