Surrounded by her paraprofessionals, fellow teachers and principal, Holyoke School District resource teacher Nancy Miles was recognized as the N.E. BOCES Outstanding Special Education Teacher for 2017.
This honor was presented to Miles at the May 16 Holyoke Board of Education meeting by board president Kris Camblin.
Her nomination letter from BOCES speech language pathologist Kelly Durbin cited that Miles is doing an incredible job of running a life skills classroom in two different school buildings in Holyoke.
Miles was instrumental in the implementation of the life skills programs. In addition to working directly with a number of students with significant needs, she also coordinates and oversees a number of paraprofessionals who also work with the students.
“Miles has high expectations for her students and works exceptionally hard to help them achieve their goals and perform to the best of their abilities,” said Durbin in her nomination.
