Holyoke 4th-graders take home blue spruce trees

    Right between Earth Day and Arbor Day, Holyoke Elementary’s fourth-graders got to celebrate in a very tangible way. On April 24, Haxtun Conservation District partnered with Holyoke Lions Club to deliver blue spruce trees to excited students.
    Joe Crowder spoke to the classes about the many benefits of planting trees. They touched on oxygen, soil erosion, bees and butterflies, to name a few.
    Students also learned how to plant their trees. Though  they’re small now, Crowder pointed out that the trees could grow 60 feet tall and span 30 feet across, so it’s important to pick a place to plant that has plenty of room.
