High school gymnasium upgrades contemplated

Replacement costs for bleachers, floor, running track and scoreboard in the new gym at Holyoke JR/SR High were contemplated by the Re-1J School Board at its Aug. 18 meeting.

A decision on the scope of the upgrades will be made at the Aug. 27 special board meeting planned this week.

With no sports in the gym until January, timing is in the district’s favor for redoing the floor and other upgrades within the next four months.

In order to avoid going to the taxpayers for funding on this project, the board anticipates using money from the district’s reserves.

Additionally, they talked about selling sponsorships for having logos placed on the gym floor and scoreboards.
