Hatters gone mad

    In celebration of the last day of school before the holiday break, Holyoke Elementary School hosted a silly Christmas hat contest and canned food drive Friday, Dec. 15.
    With the whole school gathered in the gym around the Christmas tree singing carols, each class took turns snaking around the tree to deposit nonperishable food items which will be donated to local food banks.
    After students concluded the donations and songs, the highlight of the party was teachers and staff donning silly hats — most of which were homemade. They paraded around the Christmas tree for all to see.
    Cheering to pick their favorite, it boiled down to Laura Loutenstock and Jade Goldenstein. In the end the loudest shoutout went to Loutensock, who was clad in silly hat and beard.
