FFA takes service sale online

With state conference canceled, FCCLA donates funds

A time-honored tradition involving Holyoke High School and the community at large is the FCCLA/FFA service sale. Typically the two organizations team up for the fundraiser during the spring semester, serving a meal and auctioning off each student to the highest bidder. Winners are entitled to eight hours of work from the FCCLA/FFA member they purchased.

This year, of course, the spring semester was interrupted by the coronavirus outbreak. With gatherings limited, there was simply no way to move forward with the traditional service sale.

For FFA, that meant taking the service sale online. On April 23, bidding began at 8 a.m. It closed April 26 at 8 p.m. A photo and resume of each FFA member was posted on the chapter’s Facebook page, and community members bid in the comments. Despite being unable to attend an in-person event, bidders came out in full force to support the students.
