FCCLA conference promotes healthy choices

Holyoke High School’s FCCLA attended the Northeastern Plains FCCLA Fall Conference on Oct. 16 in Brush. Sixteen Holyoke members were in attendance, and there were 10 area schools at the conference. The conference title was "Making the Pieces Come Together," with the theme of the national program “Student Body.”

Student Body helps young people — specifically students — learn to eat right, be fit and make healthy choices. At the start of the conference, a fun run was organized. Members hula-hooped, jump-roped and climbed stairs along a 5K course set up at the Brush fairgrounds.

They then discussed stress management with other students. A group discussion was started regarding methods of stress relief and coping skills. There was also a workshop about maintaining a positive mental attitude and another workshop that taught yoga and stress-relieving stretches.
