Don’t 4-get! School moves to 4-day week

Holyoke School District has used a hybrid model in the past, but the 2021-22 school year is the first go at an official four-day school week.

There will not be school on Fridays — although there are a few exceptions.

School is starting a week later than normal due to the summer construction project at Holyoke JR/SR High School. For students in grades 7-12, the school year starts on Tuesday, Aug. 24. Elementary students in grades K-6 will start the following day, Wednesday, Aug. 25. There will be class Friday, Aug. 27, since it is a shortened week.

There will not be school Monday, Sept. 6, due to Labor Day, so class will be held on Friday, Sept. 10.

In the fall, there’s no school Monday, Nov. 15, due to a teacher inservice day; therefore, there will be school Friday, Nov. 19.

Next spring, Easter break is scheduled for Friday-Monday, April 15-18. Students will attend school on Friday that week, April 22.

Staff members will also get the majority of Fridays off this year. There are staff inservice days scheduled about once a month on Fridays, and two parent-teacher conference days are on Fridays: Oct. 22 and March 4.
