Students offer Day of Service on April 21

In a normal year, Holyoke High School students in FFA and FCCLA would be planning their annual service sale fundraiser. However, with the knowledge that many businesses and individuals have been struggling in the past year and with significantly smaller conference expenses to raise money for, the students came up with a new idea for 2021.

The three career and technical education organizations at HHS — FFA, FCCLA and FBLA — are teaming up to offer the Holyoke community a CTE Day of Service on Wednesday, April 21, completely free of charge.

The students are looking for up to 30 reasonable service projects at residences or businesses in Holyoke or within 5 miles of town.

Each project will have five to six students devoting three hours of work April 21 from either 8-11 a.m. or 12:10-3:10 p.m. Adult supervision is required for the duration of the service project.

CTE Day of Service projects will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who are interested in the opportunity should call the school at 970-854-2284, ext. 116, or email the organizations’ advisers: Lori Nelson, FBLA, nelsonlo@hcosd.org; Karen Ortner, FCCLA, ortnerka@hcosd.org; or Shauna Strecker, FFA, streckersh@hcosd.org.
