Concert features hit music, numerous awards, bittersweet farewells

    As band director Chris Lampkin announced his forthcoming departure from Holyoke and seniors prepared for their graduation, the final Holyoke JR/SR High band concert of the school year was filled with heart.
    Combined with the May 8 concert at the HHS auditorium was the presentation of awards to various band members for their achievements throughout the last year.
    Honored this year as the John Philip Sousa Award winner was HHS junior Jilian Hunter, who plays the trumpet. For the first time ever, Holyoke also awarded the Leonard Bernstein Award to one of its band members. Isaac Strauss, an eighth-grader who plays the tenor saxophone was the recipient.
