4th-graders talk citizenship in FCE essay contest

Fourth-graders in Holyoke and Haxtun recently had the opportunity to compete in the annual essay contest put on by the FCE Jolly Dozen club. Holyoke’s Rosalinda Turcios Espinal was awarded first place, giving her the chance to compete on the state level. Fellow Holyoke student Marely Favela took second place, and Haxtun’s Corbin Andersen came in third.
Winners were recognized by FCE representatives Beverly Townsend and Peggy Davis at school Feb. 13. Each student in the fourth-grade classes was also given a book.
