Several years ago, a group of businessmen and women from across the six-county region of northeast Colorado joined forces to discuss concerns over the tremendous wealth eroding from our rural communities, as the World War II and baby boomer generations pass away, leaving estates to children who no longer live here. The group set out to establish a community foundation for rural eastern Colorado.

Their primary goal was to provide a simple and effective means for individuals and organizations to establish charitable funds — funds custom-designed to benefit their respective communities. Such funds give donors maximum control over when and how their charitable dollars are distributed.

A secondary goal was to help nonprofit organizations and pre-existing public and private foundations become more sustainable through access to legal/management expertise and heightened control over grant distributions.

To this end, the Eastern Colorado Community Fund was established in 2016.  This fund is an autonomous entity operating under the umbrella of the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado.
