Parents are wisdom reservoirs for life’s journey

At what point in your life did you finally realize that your parents weren’t as foolish as you thought they were? In our early years, we looked up to our parents. We thought they could do anything and that they knew everything.

Then we reached adolescence and suddenly our parents “changed.” Instead of being our heroes and having the IQ of Einstein, they are now the enemy and are clueless. As a teenager, you wonder what happened to them. Then we became adults and struck out on our own. Once again, at some point, our parents “changed.” As if by some realignment of the stars in the heavens, they again had sensible advice and seemed to have an answer for every situation we faced.

For some reason, Solomon has advice for us today instead of advice for our parents  who “changed” all the time: A wise child embraces a parent’s correction; a young know-it-all doesn’t listen. Could it possibly be that our parents were right all along, and we were the ones who “changed?”

Well, today, Solomon wishes to speak to all of us “children.” No matter what your age, we all need to accept and take heed to this Proverb. Our parents (and grandparents, if you are blessed enough to still have them around) are a tremendous reservoir of wisdom and practical knowledge for us.
