Shirley Claymon

    Shirley Elaine (Hixon) Claymon was born Dec. 3, 1941, to Lloyd Vernon Hixon and Virginia O. (Woods) Hixon in Imperial, Nebraska. She died at her home in Amherst March 27, 2017, at the age of 75.
    Shirley attended the country grade school near Grant, Nebraska, and Perkins County High School in Grant. After graduating from high school, she attended West Nebraska General Hospital School of Nursing, where she was pinned as a registered nurse. During her nursing career, she worked at Ogallala Community Hospital, Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant and Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke.
    On March 26, 1966, she married Delvin Claymon, and to this union three children were born: Nilla Claymon, Darrell Claymon and Daren Claymon. Delvin and Shirley were blessed with 50 years of marriage before Delvin’s death on Jan. 29, 2017.
    Family and raising her children were very important to Shirley. Along with her nursing career, she helped manage the family farm. She had many hobbies, such as knitting, crocheting, ceramics, gardening, making jewelry and photography. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church.
    Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Delvin Claymon; father, Vern Hixon; brother, Loyd Hixon; and son, Darrell Claymon.
    Shirley is survived by her mother, Virginia Hixon; daughter, Nilla Claymon; son, Daren Claymon; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Claymon; niece, Jeana Hixon; nephew, Matt Hixon; sister-in-law, Loretta Klatka; brother-in-law, Don Klatka; cousins, Isla and Dwayne Powell; and many other relatives and friends.
    The funeral service was held April 3 at the United Methodist Church in Holyoke, with Pastor Al Strauss officiating. Interment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery.
    Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
