John Nolan Lueth, 73, of Akron, died and went to heaven on June 3, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 1, 1945, to Walter Carl Lueth and Rebecca Jane (Freeman) Lueth in Julesburg.
John was born in the Julesburg hospital. He was raised on his family’s farm that was homesteaded by the Lueth brothers southeast of Sedgwick. He loved farming and often talked about his experiences growing up.
John also had a passion for flying. His cousin would fly a plane in to the farm from the time John was about 5 and take him for rides in the plane. He was too small to see out, but that did not bother him because they would do stunts and turns that allowed him to see the view down below. He never tired of flying. He got a computer-simulated flying game when he could no longer fly. He did get to take his last flight last year and share in the experience with his grandsons, Bronson and Auron.
John was so good at telling stories that his entire family got to relive his experiences and be part of them. John was a jack of all trades. He could fix anything. He was a farmer, an owner of a used car dealership and a night-shift worker at Monfort Cattle Company and cared for many people during their end of life. John loved to travel and preach the word of God or visit in churches in many towns and states. He was baptized April 1, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Sedgwick and then again by his dear friend and pastor, Larry Pasley, at Holyoke Church of Christ in 1986.
John married the love of his life, Theresa Ann Billingsley, on Aug. 12, 1967. With this union, five children were born: Robert John, Gina Denise, Broc Christopher, Levi Stefan, and Elle Jane.
John will be fondly remembered for his love, patience, kindness, unwavering strength, continuous sense of humor (always telling jokes and making everyone laugh at his silliness), his love for his family, and, above all, his love of our Lord above. He loved to play with all of the children. When the grandkids were small, they called him Big Papa, and when Cambrie learned to talk, she named him Poppy. He always knew how to make them laugh or entertain them with his fascinating stories and Bible lessons.
He raised his children to love God, their family, motorcycles, fast cars, music and life. John enjoyed anything that involved being with his family. He was looking forward to another family campout this summer. One of his favorite adventures was an annual family vacation to Bishop Castle. He enjoyed camping out and going to the lake or a fishing pond.
He most loved playing with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with his loving wife close by him. John loved his wife and children unconditionally. John was loved by so many, and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister; his brothers, Billy and Bob Lueth; his beloved niece, Jennifer; his brothers-in-law, Adam Walter and Don Weinsheim; and his best friend of a lifetime, Fred Cozad.
John leaves behind his wife of almost 51 years, Theresa Ann (Billingsley) Lueth; his children, Rob and Patricia Lueth of Wray, Gina (Lueth) and Jerome Currier of Wray, Broc and Kathleen Lueth of Holyoke, Levi and Alaina Lueth of Sterling, and Elle (Lueth) and Alberto Dominguez of Golden; his grandchildren, Justin, Allison, Jeramiah, Tori, Jake and Alyssa Lueth, Reece, Jacki, Rhett, Amanda, Bronson and Codi Morris, Ryann and Luke Hart, Auron, Hudson, Annorah and Baby Lueth, Ashlynn, Jordan and Seriah, and Brandi Cozad; his great-grandchildren, Dante, Nova, Asher, Kash, Adilai, Luna, Chase and Cambrie; his sisters, Betty Walter, Beverly Weinsheim and Deb Lueth; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, family and friends.
A funeral service was scheduled for Thursday, June 7, at 10 a.m. at Holyoke Church of Christ. A graveside service will follow at the Sedgwick Cemetery at 1 p.m., where he will be laid to rest by his parents and sister.
Memorial donations may be made to the Holyoke Church of Christ or to the Sterling Church of Christ.
Bowin Funeral Home in Akron has been entrusted with the arrangements.
