    Elmer Dean Jacobs was born Jan. 8, 1932, in Topeka, Kansas, to Roy Pierce and Dona Henrietta (Gardner) Jacobs. He died July 13, 2018, at his home in Haxtun at the age of 86.
    Elmer graduated from Laird High School. All of his further education was received from the military. He joined the Air Force on April 25, 1952, and retired from the Air Force on May 31, 1972. In the military, he served as a staff sergeant, and he provided essential support to help his organization win the coveted Smith Trophy as the best air defense unit in the U. S. Air Force, scoring 6,930 points out of a possible 7,000 points.
    After retiring from the military in 1974, he worked for Highline Electric Association from February 1974 to January 1994.
    Elmer loved golfing and bowling; he golfed in the summer and bowled in the winter.
    Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Dona H. Jacobs; son, Danny D. Jacobs; and several brothers and sisters.
    Elmer is survived by and will be greatly missed by his significant other, Vera Billingsley, who was his best friend and companion for the last 22 years; Mike Jacobs of Florence, Arizona; Rodney Jacobs of Windsor; Tanya Jacobs Wright of Fort Collins; Richard Jacobs of Loveland; Raymond Jacobs of Fort Collins; Trent Brandt of Akron; and other relatives and friends.
    The memorial service was held July 20 at Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke, with Pastor Gary Rahe officiating. There will be an inurnment at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver on July 30.
    Baucke Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
