Clara Heermann

    Clara Emma Heermann, age 100, of Haxtun, died Jan. 19, 2019. She was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Pierce County in Osmond, Nebraska, to Harry and Amelia (Welper) Oltjenbruns. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond.
    Clara came to Phillips County by passenger train in 1920. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke.
    Clara married Lawrence Heermann in January 1940 in Imperial, Nebraska. They resided in Holyoke, Amherst, Haxtun and Sterling. Clara and Lawrence moved to Evergreen Corner in 1946. They enjoyed traveling in the United States and other countries.
    Clara was well-loved in the community as a 4-H leader, the hospital auxiliary and the Republican Women’s organization. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, travel and volunteer work.
    She is survived by her daughters, Anne and Bill Gillespie, Janet and Royce Potter, and Celia and Ed Dutcher; son, Lauren and JoEllen Heermann; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her parents; two sisters; two brothers; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
    A memorial service was held Jan. 22 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
