Mowers n More purchased by Koehns; will remain in same location

What started out as a part-time job helping Mike and Deb Woodhead service mowers has turned into a full-time career for Doug Koehn, who, along with his dad, Darryl, purchased the business Mowers n More from the couple on Nov. 1.

Owners of Woody’s Pivot Service in Grant, Nebraska, Mike and Deb purchased the Grasshopper dealership from Tyler and Ellie Hughes of Venango, Nebraska, in January 2021 and added it to their existing pivot business.

The couple moved their businesses to Grant in January 2021, downsizing much of it, Mike said. However, when the end of 2021 came, and it was time to provide winter service to their mower customers, Mike knew he was going to need help, and he thought of Doug.

“Doug had already reached out to me about part-time work, so I gave him a call,” Mike said.

Doug and Darryl are owners of High Plains Feedlot Services of Grant. With the drought slowing the business down, and his father wanting to slow down anyway, the two were looking to sell and do something else. That’s when Mike called.

“I was just going to help Mike out for a couple days a week,” Doug said. “It turned into more.”

For a year, Doug assisted at Mowers n More, and this past summer the Woodheads decided to sell the business to the Koehns.

“My dad is enthusiastic about the opportunity,” Doug said.

The Koehns are planning to sell the feedlot equipment to a private owner next year some time, Doug said.

Mowers n More will continue to be housed at Woody’s Pivot Service on North Highway 61 in Grant, and will maintain the same hours of Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Doug said.
