Homecoming candidates named; activities planned for next week

Holyoke JR/SR High School has plenty of fun festivities planned for homecoming week Oct. 3-8. This year’s theme is “We’re Gonna ‘Beach’ You!” 

Six seniors have been selected for royalty candidates, and the king and queen will be crowned at halftime of the football game Friday. They are Sabryn Burris, Erin Andersen, Grace Roberts, Ty Dirks, Kai Siep and Jadon Frost. 

Students will start off the week with dress-up days, including Bikers vs. Surfers on Monday, Celebrity/Album Cover Day on Tuesday, Senior Citizen Day on Wednesday and Class Color Day on Thursday.

New evening activities have been added for high school students. Parents, friends and community members are invited to watch. Gorilla volleyball is Monday at 7 p.m. in the old gym. Intramural softball will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the ballpark. On Wednesday, powder puff football starts at 7 p.m. at the football field.

Students will also compete in Olympic games Thursday morning, followed by an on-campus picnic cooked by FFA and food service staff. 

Later on Thursday, floats will line up on Bignel Street at 2:15 p.m., and the homecoming parade will cruise south on Interocean Avenue beginning at 3 p.m. 

Anyone wanting to enter a float in the parade can sign up with Summer Kreider at 970-854-2284. The deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m.

Immediately after Thursday’s parade, a pep rally will take place at the football field. 

A community barbecue and bonfire is set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at the school parking lot with a meal provided by Seaboard Foods. 

Friday’s athletic events include volleyball at 4 p.m. and football at 7 p.m., both against Wiggins. 

High school students will cap off the week with a dance Saturday at 8 p.m. in the old gym.
