Girls beat Prairie, fall to Idalia in 5

The Lady Dragons volleyball team opened its season with a home triangular Saturday, Aug. 20.

In its first match of the day, Holyoke lost to Idalia in a very close five-set game, followed by a dominant three-set win over Prairie in the afternoon.

“I’m pretty happy with the progress we’ve made in the beginning, and I’m excited to see where we land in the end,” said coach Irene Ortega.

She said that there were some nerves in the first game of the season, and the team needed some time to adjust to different rotations. Some mistakes resulted in lost points, and the Lady Dragons offense just wasn’t executing against a strong Idalia defense, said Ortega. The tough mental aspect of the game also came into play as Holyoke battled through five sets of volleyball.
