What does a donkey feel like? What does it smell like? And what will happen if I stick out my hand with a little treat for it? Holyoke Elementary School students found that out and more at the annual Barnyard Day event Thursday, Feb. 24. At left, Holyoke junior Savannah Vermeulen introduces her donkey to first graders, from left, Kaizley Colglazier, Daleisa Hernandez Martinez and Royce Maradiaga Dominguez. The Holyoke JR/SR High School ag shop was transformed into a barnyard with a wide variety of animals and equipment brought from home by FFA members. The day was a highlight of National FFA Week, which also included driving tractors to school and dressing like farm animals Monday, serving a teacher appreciation breakfast in official FFA gear Tuesday and competing in ag olympics and dressing like a farmer Wednesday. — Darci Rodriguez | The Holyoke Enterprise
