Students of the month

Sponsored by Holyoke Chamber of Commerce

Students of the Month for April at Holyoke JR/SR High School have been named. They are senior Kylie Purkeypile, nominated by English teacher Charlene Kleve, and eighth grader Michelle Espinal, nominated by physical education teacher Danyell Jablonski.

The nomination letter for Purkeypile read, “Kylie Purkeypile rises above others in our school, not just in academics, but also in her drive and determination. Kylie has taken on several college courses where she is required to work on her own at her own pace and is always on top if it. It has not been uncommon this semester to see her lugging around her box of ‘goodies’ from her college biology class so she can work on it every spare minute she has. Kylie has been the lone senior girl on several sports teams and as such displays a true leadership role, mentoring others as needed ... but also willing to learn more and get better at what she is doing. Kylie has been running a blood drive for the Red Cross this school year and has encouraged staff, students and community members to donate and help our hospital. She demonstrates what it is to be a Dragon in all she does in our school, on our sports teams, and in our community. It takes a truly good person at heart to exemplify all the qualities we see in Kylie. I am honored to have her as a student and as a Holyoke Dragon.”

Espinal’s letter read, “Michelle is an outstanding leader and rises to the expectation each day. I have seen her grow so much in the past year and she is still always trying to improve herself and her classmates. Everyone wants to be on Michelle’s team. Honesty, care, kindness, and excitement are just a few words I would use to describe her. Keep up the good work and continue to be that great role model our younger students need!”
