School gives entrance, exit reminder this week

Students are returning to class this week. The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Holyoke JR/SR High School and Thursday, Aug. 20, at Holyoke Elementary School.

The school district recently announced a change to the entrance and exit procedures.

The doors of the schools will open at 7:45 a.m., with the first bell at 8:05 a.m.

Kindergartners will come and go using the kindergarten classroom entrance, and the first and second graders will use the library doors. The west side of the elementary main doors will be used by the third and fourth graders and the east side by the fifth and sixth graders. Bus students will enter and exit from the south side of the building.

Elementary children coming to or leaving the school between 8:15 a.m. and 3:38 p.m. should use the main entrance.

The elementary school is implementing a staggered dismissal schedule. Fifth and sixth graders will be dismissed at 3:38 p.m., third and fourth graders at 3:39 p.m. and kindergartners and first and second graders at 3:40 p.m.

On early-release Fridays, dismissal times include fifth and sixth graders at 11:48 a.m., third and fourth graders at 11:49 a.m., and kindergarten, first and second graders at 11:50 a.m.

Lunch will be served in the cafeteria for grades K, 1, 3 and 5 and in the multipurpose room for grades 2, 4 and 6.

At the JR/SR high, seventh and eighth graders will use the junior high doors, ninth and 10th graders will use the entrance where the bus students are dropped off on the north side, and the main entry of the high school will be utilized by 11th and 12th graders.

JR/SR high students may leave the campus for lunch or can eat the school lunch served in the junior high commons area for junior highers and in the high school commons area for high schoolers.
