David Sprague

    Byron David Sprague, the son of Billie and Ida Sprague, was born in Ovid on Sept. 10, 1943. He peacefully passed on April 19, 2019.
    David attended school in Sedgwick until the family moved to Holyoke, where he graduated from Holyoke High School in 1961. He married Nancy Wood, and they were engaged in farming for the next 30 years.
    During these years, David became active in politics. He served as chairman of the Democratic Central Committee and on the State Executive Committee. He was a delegate to state conventions as well as to the National Charter Convention. He was elected state representative for the 65th District for 1975-76. David then served as a legislative assistant to Senator Gary Hart in Washington, D.C. He was a presidential elector for the 4th Congressional District.
    He was a national co-chairman for Rural Americans for Hart for President. He ran for the office of U.S. representative in the 4th Congressional District in 1986. He then served as national co-chairman of Rural Friends for Hart for President.
    David returned to college and graduated magna cum laude with a Master of Arts from Colorado State University in 1994. He began teaching political science at Front Range Community College, where he taught for 21 years. He was greatly rewarded in teaching as he watched his students become engaged and developing their political views.
    David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy; son, Todd; son, Brian and wife Jane and daughter Vivian; long-time family friend, Sue Wigman; and sisters, Patricia Olofson, Nancy Lockwood, Sandra Bouch, Carol Burk­hart, Margaret Wall and Kate Moss, and their families.
