Holyoke Marketplace introduces online shopping, delivery options

The habits of young shoppers are changing, and one Holyoke grocer has decided to change with them.
Last week, Holyoke Marketplace introduced a new online shopping option, which allows customers to view the store’s inventory and order groceries online.
Shoppers can then pick up their groceries in the store or, if they live in town, have them delivered to their home. The online interface also allows users to add specific instructions for employees, such as the condition of fruits and vegetables to buy or how to slice their deli meats.
The service is ideal for customers who don’t have the time to pick out items or are otherwise unable to make it into the store.
Holyoke Marketplace owner Jill Moline said her company had considered introducing online shopping for almost two years and cited shifting preferences among millennials as one of the reasons for the change.
The rollout of the program was delayed while the company worked to photograph and digitally represent an inventory that included tens of thousands of items.
