Feed the Funnel events Oct. 17

FCCLA conference to send meals throughout the region

What’s a Feed the Funnel event? According to Pack Shack, “Crazy fun! We’ll all put on groovy hairnets, crank up some awesome music and create thousands of delicious, healthy meals from dry ingredients in an assembly line process. Spontaneous dance parties have been known to breakout, so be prepared!”
Holyoke High School’s chapter of FCCLA is hosting two separate Feed the Funnel events Wednesday, Oct. 17, where students will package nonperishable meals to be donated to local food pantries. The first will be in the morning, when Holyoke hosts the FCCLA fall conference at the Phillips County Event Center. That afternoon, students from Holyoke JR/SR High will participate in the second event.
Hosting the events all started with Kyra Loutensock and Cash Adler’s 2017-18 FCCLA chapter service project. Community members may remember the Empty Bowls supper they hosted in January to raise awareness and funds to help hungry people.
The two faced obstacles with the first food packaging organization they intended to work with, which pushed the second phase of the project a few months back. As it turns out, the delay ended up being a good thing.
In addition to hosting a packaging event for Holyoke students, the chapter was able to set up the event for the FCCLA fall conference as well. Furthermore, plans are in the works for at least two other Colorado organizations that want to host their own events as a result.
