Condes claim horseshoes prizes

    It was a Conde family event at the Phillips County Fair Saturday, July 28, when they gathered in the southwest corner of Homesteaders Park to compete in the annual horseshoes event.
    Monse and Olga Conde’s children, grandchildren, great-grands and friends of family members either competed or enjoyed the nice shade to watch the action.
    Friday’s scheduled horseshoes action was canceled due to the afternoon storm, so organizers were pleased for participants in Saturday’s competition. Conducted annually by Alvin Schumann of Haxtun, the horseshoes competition has been a mainstay on the fair schedule for decades.
